BROWN BANDED COCKROACHES
What do brown banded cockroaches look like and what do they eat?
This tiny nocturnal cockroach measures at a minuscule half inch, making it easier for this critter to creep into your home unnoticed. Once in your home, they dine on anything with high starch content including stamps, book bindings and wall paper paste, similar to the earwig and silverfish.
How do I know if brown banded cockroaches are in my home?
Upon arrival, they are likely to migrate toward the ceiling, the attic, or near any dry place with high temperatures in your home, as they prefer warm areas around 80 degrees or higher. A way to spot them is to check in these places, though they do scatter into darker places if you turn a light on. Also, if you find little groups of droppings spotted on your ceiling, around light fixtures or wall hangings then you have found an indicated “safe zone” for the cockroaches and you might be able to catch them there.
Are brown banded cockroaches harmful to human health?
Brown banded cockroaches carry and spread harmful bacteria and protozoa that cause diarrhea and gastroenteritis. More mild health concerns are allergies and triggering an asthmatic reaction.
Different species of cockroaches respond to different extermination tactics, and a tactic used for one species will not be effective on another. This means you need proper identification of the cockroach, which can be difficult to those not familiar with these insects and you will most likely go through a few methods before being successful or just giving up. Oneway Pest Control can properly identify and remove cockroaches from your home without a trial and error approach.
